How we score

We did not playtest these rackets. The scores come from published specs and from real rackets weighed by shops, all put through one formula. Players' own ratings are shown next to them as a second opinion, never mixed in. Here is exactly how it works.

Inputs

For each racket we collect foam firmness, face material and carbon weave, thickness, number of holes, weight and balance. Weight and balance come from real rackets weighed by shops (mostly in Brazil, where shops list each unit) whenever we find them, which is the case for most models. Otherwise we use the most common published figure. A weight or balance marked with ~ is the average of those real rackets: the one you buy can differ by a few grams and millimetres, because every racket comes out of the mould slightly different.

The four scores

Each input is placed on a fixed market range (for example 300 to 360 g for weight), then combined. Power leans on foam firmness, weight, carbon weave and a thinner profile. Control leans on softer foam, weight and a thicker profile. Sweet spot leans on weight and thickness. Handling comes from swing weight (how heavy the racket feels in motion, from its weight and balance) plus a small bonus for holes. Scores are out of 100 on the same scale for every racket, so a 60 means the same thing everywhere. The tick on each bar is the market median.

How the quiz picks your five rackets

Your answers build a target profile on the same four scores, starting from your current racket if you have one. Every racket is then ranked by how close it is to that target, with penalties for what you told us to avoid: going over your budget, a racket that is too hard on the arm, or a weight you find too heavy. The scores you said you like in your current racket are protected. The results show at most two rackets per brand and explain each pick.

Player ratings

Players rate the racket they own on the same four scores, from 1 to 5 with both ends of each scale described, plus vibration and whether they would buy it again. Each rating is confirmed by email, one per person per racket. A racket shows player scores once it has 5 confirmed ratings: the average, converted to 100. Player ratings never change the spec scores or the quiz. Where players and specs differ by 20 points or more, the page says so. We can confirm an email address, not that the person owns the racket.

Prices

We show the list price in euros and in US dollars. When a brand only lists one currency, the other is converted at €1 = $1.12 and marked ≈. When there is no European or US list price, we estimate it from the Brazilian price and both figures are marked ≈. Shops and promotions vary, so treat prices as a guide.

What we leave out

Spin and surface texture (players re-sand their faces), shape (nearly identical across brands) and coatings such as titanium or aluminium, whose claimed benefits are about feel and durability.

Limits you should know

Brands don't share a hardness scale for foam, so comparing foam across brands is the least certain part of the model. Some specs are estimated when a brand doesn't publish them; those rackets carry a 'Partly estimated' badge.

Data quality badges

  • Well measured3 or more real rackets weighed by shops, no estimated specs.
  • Published specsMostly brand specs, or only 1 or 2 rackets weighed.
  • Partly estimatedAt least one key spec (weight, balance or thickness) is estimated. Treat as provisional.

Updates

Every month we check each brand for new pro models. A racket joins once its specs are published, and people who asked for new-racket alerts get an email when one fits their quiz profile. We only list pro rackets: beginner, comfort and fiberglass entry models are left out.

Independence and corrections

Ace Racket Lab is independent and not affiliated with any brand. No brand pays to appear or to rank higher. Brand and model names belong to their owners. If you spot a wrong spec, write to qguillouais@gmail.com with the racket name and a link to the source, and we will fix it in the next update.
